The FoodChain team sample a selection of new and innovative foods and drink
Heat it and eat it
Somerset based soup & risotto company, Watmuff & Beckett, is the brain child of Michelin-trained chef Michael Beckett and childhood friend Andrew Watmuff whose background is in farming.
Much of the produce that goes into each pot comes from within the UK and the business is proud to support farmers by buying and using their wonky veg that aren’t ‘beautiful’ enough for supermarket shelves. The risotto rice comes from the renowned brand Riso Gallo, matching W&B’s own standards and ethics as well as being of the highest quality.
The Watmuff & Beckett risottos were really well received by the Taste Test Team. Impressed by the range of flavours, especially ham hock and garden pea, the top choice was Chorizo and Butternut squash, which had a great intense flavour and colour. “The squash added a sweetness to the spice of the chorizo and it was so convenient to quickly heat up the pot, ideal for after the gym or a late night at work. I am a bit of a risotto fan, so these products definitely get the thumbs up from me!”
The purest wine
International brand Üllo has launched the revolutionary Üllo Wine Purifier into the UK. The first of its kind product works to restore wine to its natural state using innovative Selective Sulphite Capture™ technology, which acts as a magnet to pull the sulphites out, whilst retaining all other compounds in the wine. By removing sulphites, Üllo can also remove the distinctly bitter taste found with some wines.
Founder of the brand, James Kornacki, commented: “Here at Üllo we believe the best things in life are simple and pure, especially when it comes to the things we eat and drink. It is for this reason that we developed Selective Sulphite Capture technology to purify wine and ensure that wine lovers can enjoy wine in its natural state.”
Our tester was impressed with the Ullo Wine Purifier. “The box and packaging are very sophisticated, and as an object it’s very attractive, something I would happily have on display rather than put away in a cupboard,” she said. “The wine filters through quickly and easily, and the resulting taste was definitely smoother and the next day I didn’t suffer as badly from a bit of over-indulgence. A definite win from me!”

Nuts about nuts
New brand Boundless is pushing the boundaries of conventional snacking by delivering on both taste and health in exciting new ways. Each pack of activated nuts and seeds provides a unique snacking experience through their unusual flavours and satisfying crunch; including cayenne and rosemary; tamari and aleppo; and orange, ginger, and maple.
Boundless uses ancient Aztec and Aborigine techniques of soaking and baking the nuts and seeds to unlock their nutrients for better digestion. Their F.A.B. Method (Flood, Activate, Bake) is truly what separates this snack from other generic brands:
FLOOD: First, they drench their nuts and seeds in water to kick start nature’s natural activation process.
ACTIVATE: They then soak the nuts to remove the bitter phytic acid and protective enzymes, enabling better digestion.
BAKE: Finally, they gently bake them using natural ingredients for a fuller flavour and lighter crunch.
The Test team were impressed with Boundless’ approach to making nuts and seeds a more exciting snack choice. “I had the Orange, Ginger & Maple variety and the flavour was subtle but very tasty, with a sweet and savoury element that is hard to describe! The low sugar content and high levels of fibre and protein were a bonus, and the packaging was very appealing, with a good price point.”
